We are the very first UK yogurt makers to commit to only using free range milk in every last one of our pots.
But what does that mean, exactly? Free range milk, much like free range eggs and chickens, come from cows that are free to roam the fields for at least 150 days of the year, every year.
You might think that this is the norm, but unfortunately it isn’t across the industry. At Lancashire Farm, we believe that it only takes one of us to take that first step before everyone else (hopefully) follows suit and a trend is set forever.
We know that happy cows produce the best milk, so it only makes sense to do everything in our power to keep them as happy as they are healthy – our Grazing Guarantee and exclusive use of free range milk will do exactly that.
150 days
Our cows are outside for at least 150 days a year
As lovely as our home of Lancashire is, it isn’t exactly the driest of places. Based on our average rainfall each year, we arrived at 150 days as a minimum number of days for our cows to be outside for. If that figure was any higher there is a good chance our cows would be stood out in the cold and/or wet unnecessarily – and our entire aim with this initiative is to boost their happiness, not hamper it!
We check our cows are kept to free range standards every 18 months, and carry out random spot checks regularly.
